The Most Effective Way to Remove Saggy Jowls = FACELIFT

Help!  My profile has changed, and I’m looking older.  My jawline is losing definition, and things are beginning to sag.  There are deep lines around my nose and mouth and less separation between my chin and neck.  I’ve tried various non-invasive things but feel I may need something more.  What is the next step?

Dermal fillers may help as a next step.  Juvederm® Volux® restores lost definition in the jawline to mask the appearance of jowls.  Juvederm® Voluma® is a cheek filler that can add volume in the mid-face area.  Results from these treatments can last up to 12 months.

However, the most effective way to remove saggy jowls and correct these other aging issues is with a facelift.  This procedure addresses sagging skin in the mid-to-lower part of the face.

Jowls will disappear, sunken or hollowed cheeks will be restored, deep lines around the nose and mouth will be minimized, and loose skin on the lower face and neck will be removed.  A facelift can take years off a person’s appearance.

How does a facelift correct signs of aging?

Not only will saggy, excess skin be removed during the procedure, but facial muscles will be repositioned and tightened.  Facial and neck fat can be sculpted or moved to restore volume in the cheeks.  Definition can be restored to the neckline by removing excess fat that gives the appearance of a double chin or jowls.

Will there be visible scars?

Many people worry whether there will be noticeable scars after a facelift.  However, an expert plastic surgeon carefully places the incisions to conceal any potential scars.  Incisions are typically made in the hairline, around the ears, and underneath the chin.  Following Dr. Keusch’s instructions for proper wound care and avoiding sun exposure will aid in optimal healing of the incisions.

What is recovery like?

Some mild discomfort, tightness, swelling, and bruising is normal following a facelift.  The patient should focus on rest and recovery for the first two weeks.  Strenuous activities and sun exposure should be avoided.  After two weeks, patients can generally resume light activities and return to work using makeup to cover any post-operative bruising.  Most swelling and bruising should be gone in about a month.  Patients will see some results right away.  Optimal results are visible within six months to a year post surgery.  A facelift should leave you looking refreshed, rejuvenated, and totally natural.

After the post-operative swelling subsides, Dr. Keusch often recommends Volux® and Voluma® dermal fillers to help add volume and strengthen the bone structure.  Exilis™ Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can also be used post-surgery to firm facial skin and improve texture while increasing collagen and elastin production.  These treatments can help rejuvenate areas that a facelift doesn’t address.

A facelift does not stop the aging process, so results are not permanent.  A facelift generally lasts about ten years.  Facelift surgery does remove saggy, unwanted skin so that other anti-aging treatments can work more effectively.
