GET NEEDED LIFT AND SUPPORT

Genetics and gravity play a significant role in how breasts look as they age. Breast sagging, or ptosis, can result from changes that occur due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, nursing, and the effects of aging. Skin loses its elasticity. Support tissues lose tone and stretch over time. Women who have had breast implants may experience sagging because of the extra weight in their breasts. Many women are left with breast droopiness in varying degrees ranging from mild to moderate, and even severe.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that restores and rejuvenates breasts to a more youthful appearance. However, the results of a breast lift are not guaranteed to last indefinitely. Weight gain and aging may eventually take a toll. A solution to enhance the longevity of a breast lift is an internal bra. The procedure can also be used to correct implant complications such as “bottoming-out”.

WHAT IS AN INTERNAL BRA?

An internal bra is a surgical procedure that provides internal support for breast tissue or implants. A scaffolding or mesh is anchored to the chest wall to take on most of the weight of the breast tissue or implants. The patient will experience less sagging with the additional support in place.

Dr. Keusch recommends two types of internal bras based on the patient’s tissue quality. Both are designed for use in plastic surgery and reconstructive procedures.

  • GalaFLEX Scaffold – A bioresorbable scaffold that supports, elevates, and reinforces the soft tissue. It naturally dissolves over time leaving behind a framework for collagen and elastin for a natural support network.
  • Meso BioMatrix – An acellular surgical mesh that is exceptionally strong, supportive, and reinforcing when implanted to support breast tissue. It supports host cell integration and revascularization.

An internal bra can be added to a breast implant procedure to give supplemental support from the start. The patient will have less sagging and longer-lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please feel free to contact our office directly if you have additional questions on Internal Bra Mastopexy.

A good candidate for internal bra is a woman with weak breast tissue that sags and has poor elasticity. The patient should be in good health with realistic expectations for the results. An internal bra is not meant to take the place of a normal bra, especially when exercising or playing sports.

Patients should expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort for the first week post-surgery. It is advised to rest during this period before returning to work. Patients may resume some physical activities after 3-4 weeks.
