HOW DOES BLEPHAROPLASTY WORK?
The eyelid lift is performed by making small incisions into key areas of the eyelid (usually in the fold of the upper eyelid or in the inner lining of the lower eyelid). These incisions allow Dr. Keusch to access sagging or heavy eyelid tissues. Contouring of the eyelid may reduce heavy fat pockets as well as position the lids in a more ideal way.
An eyelid lift can be a stand-alone procedure or performed in conjunction with a brow lift, facelift, or laser skin resurfacing for a complete facial rejuvenation.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery involves the removal of excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper eyelids, addressing issues such as sagging skin, puffiness, and drooping that can occur due to aging or genetic factors. During surgery, incisions are discreetly made along the natural creases of the eyelids, allowing Dr. Keusch to remove or reposition tissues while minimizing visible scarring.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery, or lower blepharoplasty, is designed to address concerns such as under-eye bags, puffiness, and wrinkles. The surgery involves the removal or redistribution of excess fat, as well as tightening of the skin and muscles around the lower eyelids. Dr. Keusch will make inconspicuous incisions either along the lash line or inside the lower eyelid, ensuring minimal visible scarring. Through these incisions, she can access and reposition the underlying tissues to smooth out wrinkles and correct puffiness.
FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions
You’re a good candidate for an eyelid lift if you have sagging or drooping upper or lower eyelids. Most candidates feel that their eyelids make them look constantly sleepy or fatigued, even if they’re getting a good night’s sleep. The ideal candidate should be a nonsmoker who is committed to continuing with a healthy lifestyle.
Patients may see their results right away, especially if eyelid sagging was particularly pronounced. Patients should expect noticeable swelling and bruising over the course of a few weeks. Once the swelling and bruising have gone down, patients will see their optimal results, which may include younger, smoother, and well-rested eyes. Some patients may even be able to enjoy their full field of vision again!
During the first week of recovery, you should expect minimal discomfort, although some blurriness may be present. We recommend arranging for care at home, as you will have restrictions while you’re recovering. You may be able to return to work in about a week, depending on Dr. Keusch’s approval. The majority of swelling and bruising should be gone at around the six-week mark, although minor swelling may still be present for several months after.
Throughout your recovery, you’ll have regular check-ins with Dr. Keusch to ensure your recovery is successful.
