The brow area is often one of the first parts of the face that people feel needs a rejuvenation. The appearance of forehead wrinkles, more prominent number 11 lines, and sagging eyebrows begins to be noticeable and bothersome. The first step for many people is a chemical brow lift, achieved with injections of Botox, Dysport, or other neuromodulators. However, this quick fix option is only temporary and must be repeated every few months for optimal results. Even worse, a chemical lift may produce unwanted results such as asymmetry, eyelid droopiness, or an angry look. Eventually, one may conclude these results are not meeting their needs, and they want a more natural-looking and long lasting result.
Eyebrow Lift

An eyebrow lift, commonly referred to as a brow lift, is a surgical procedure that smooths forehead wrinkles, lifts sagging eyebrows, and minimizes frown lines between the brows, aka number 11 lines. These changes often appear as we age, making us look tired, angry, or stressed. A brow lift opens up the eyes and addresses all these problem areas to create a rested, more youthful appearance that is natural, not “frozen”.
Lateral Brow Lift
The lateral brow lift, also called a temporal brow lift, is a procedure that lifts the outer portion of the eyebrows. This method is less invasive than the Endoscopic Method. It elevates the outer brow area, targeting patients with heavy brows or dropping outer eyebrows. Small incisions are usually hidden within the hairline, resulting in minimal scarring and faster recovery.
The Endoscopic Method
Another alternative offered is the endoscopic method for eyebrow lifts. Small incisions are also hidden behind the hairline, and specialized instruments are used to reposition underlying muscles and lift forehead tissue. This method can be used to minimize number 11 lines between the brows. Advantages of the endoscopic method include minimal scarring, less post-operative pain, and a faster recovery for the patient. There is a reduced risk of common complications with the endoscopic method than with more invasive surgical procedures.
What is recovery like?
Recovery typically takes one to two weeks, and patients should be prepared to take some time off work to rest and heal. Patients can expect some swelling and bruising initially, but these subside quickly. They should avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks during the healing process. Following all recovery instructions is key to ensuring optimal results.
Are brow lifts permanent?
Brow lifts are not considered permanent as the skin will continue to change as we age. Improvements seen with a brow lift can last up to 10 years, if patients follow a healthy skincare routine and avoid sun damage.
