Breast lift surgery is one of the top cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. It’s designed to lift, tighten, and contour breasts that have sagged due to aging or weight loss, and restore the appearance of breasts that have deflated or lost volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A breast lift provides a more youthful and uplifted appearance that restores confidence and improves breast symmetry.
Does a breast lift leaves scars?
Many patients wonder if a breast lift will leave scars, and if so, what will the scars look like? The answer is yes; there will be scars. The type of scarring can depend on several factors as the surgeon determines the most appropriate procedure for the patient. These factors include the particular anatomy of the patient, her desired outcome, the degree of sagging, skin quality and elasticity, breast volume, and overall shape of the breasts.
Two popular incisions used in breast lift surgeries are the vertical, also known as lollipop, and the anchor, or inverted T incision. However, Dr. Keusch only uses the Vertical Lift incision, as it leaves a considerably less visible scar than the Anchor Scar technique. Additionally, the Vertical incision has a shorter recovery time.

Vertical Incision
Often referred to as a lollipop lift, this procedure is more suitable for moderate sized breasts. A circular incision is made around the areola, or pigmented skin surrounding the nipple. Then a second incision is made straight down the center of the lower part of the breast. There is no cut under the breast. The surgeon raises the breast and repositions the nipple. The skin is then pulled tight. Recovery time is shorter with this type of incision. This is the incision type used by Dr. Keusch.
Anchor Lift
The anchor, or inverted T, lift is a more comprehensive surgery involving three incisions. It encompasses the two incisions from a lollipop lift plus a horizontal incision along the natural crease underneath the breast. This lift works best in individuals with significant sagginess and drooping breasts. Excess skin and tissue are removed, the breast is lifted and reshaped, and the nipple and areola are repositioned higher on the breast. Since the incisions are more extensive, there can be more noticeable scarring. However, this procedure allows for the most dramatic lift.
