If you’re looking for radiant skin, you’ve come to the right place. The world of skin peels is a mysterious and sometimes confusing one, but the results are also impressive. It may be challenging for those who are new to skin peels to understand which peel type is the best for your skin and the results you are trying to achieve. Even for those who have used skin peels before, you may be looking for information on which skin peel can help with a different skin issue.

When we talk about “skin peels,” we are referring to superficial peels that are administered by a licensed professional–a physician, an aesthetician, or a nurse under a physician’s supervision. Superficial peels (sometimes called a light chemical peel) are the mildest type of professional peel available. They are great for people who are new to skin peels and may feel apprehensive about trying them for the first time. They are also great options for people who have more sensitive skin.

There are many different kinds of SkinMedica® skin peels available for patients, so booking a consultation is the best way to help you decide if SkinMedica® skin peels are right for you and which kind of peel can help you get your desired look.

Every Type of Skin Peel “Level” Serves a Different Purpose

There are three different levels of skin peels: superficial peels, medium peels, and deep peels.

Superficial peels are used to treat skin challenges such as fine lines, acne, uneven skin tone and texture, and dry skin. Generally, these kinds of peels are made from an alpha hydroxy acid (for example, glycolic acid or salicylic acid). To achieve the desired result, many patients will have to do several treatments if they choose a superficial peel. The benefit here is taking things slow, specifically if a patient is nervous about choosing skin peels in the first place.

Superficial skin peels remove only the outermost layer of skin, allowing for new, radiant, and youthful-looking skin to rejuvenate.

Medium peels treat more severe skin challenges such as skin sun damage, scars, wrinkles, and discoloration. These peels remove more layers of skin. Deep peels are used to treat the toughest skin challenges and require a much longer recovery time.

SkinMedica® Skin Peels Require Little To No Recovery Time

Since SkinMedica® skin peels fall into the superficial category, that means they require little to no downtime. Once your appointment is over, you can choose to go about your day. You can take different steps to care for your skin to keep it glowing and extend the results. Your medical professional will discuss these steps with you. If you want to take some extra time for yourself after your treatment, you can do that too. Depending on what peels your medical professional says is right for you, you may notice slight color changes in skin that may last a couple of hours after your treatment. You may also see some mild peeling.

Whereas medium and deep peels require more recovery time since they remove more layers of skin, SkinMedica® peels are much milder on the skin, which means you don’t have to call out of work, miss lunch plans with friends, or miss out on other activities. For example, deep peels may require a patient to take the weekend off for some serious rest. Their skin may feel uncomfortable for a bit after the treatment–but not with SkinMedica® peels!

SkinMedica Skin Peels

Here Is What You Can Expect During Your Treatment

If you are new to skin peels or have never undergone a SkinMedica® peel, you may be wondering what you can expect during the treatment. SkinMedica® is a highly-respected brand that uses superior ingredients in its products and has dedicated years of research into developing the best products for patients and physicians.

The treatment takes about 45 minutes and consists of a few different steps. First, your medical professional will address the skin challenges you are treating and take some time to go over any questions you may have. They will also discuss the process and what to do after your treatment to care for your skin. Then your medical professional will apply the three-step treatment to your skin, which takes about 20 minutes.

It is normal to experience some burning or tingling. Your medical professional may offer you a handheld fan to use on your skin to help cool some of your sensations and help you feel more comfortable. The good news is that most of the symptoms should subside within just a few minutes.

Listen Closely To Your Medical Professional For Optimal Healing and Results

The staff at Boca Raton Plastic Surgery Center will go through these with you during your appointment. The first 24 hours after instruction may include:

  • Wait until bedtime to wash your face with a sensitive cleanser
  • Use a moisturizer after washing your face
  • Avoid strenuous exercise

As your skin peels to allow for new, beautiful skin to rejuvenate, you can use moisturizer more often to help control peeling. Please do not touch, pick, or pull your skin as it peels. This can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

After peeling is complete, you can typically resume using your favorite skincare products.

After Your Treatment, There Are Ways To Maintain Your Results

While your skin peels post-treatment, some tips can help your skin heal well and maintain results. One of the first tips is to keep your hair pulled back and off of your face. This not only helps deter you from touching your skin post-peel but can also help prevent breakouts from happening. Keeping your hands away from your face post-treatment can help control oil, dirt, germs, and other breakout-causing sources at bay.

Another tip for maintaining results to use sunscreen on your face. Once you have undergone treatment and your skin is done peeling, it is a good idea to start wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with 30 SPF or higher. Wearing sunscreen can help to keep your skin looking youthful and to prevent wrinkles. Even when you are not in direct sunlight, it is good to wear sunscreen. This includes when you are in shaded areas or even when you are sitting near a window where natural light is seeping into your environment.

Remember To Relax As You Are Healing

While your skin is healing from your peel, it is essential to remember to try and relax. It might be frustrating or nerve-wracking to see your skin peel post-treatment, but this is a normal part of the process. Your skin is working to reveal more glowing, radiant skin. Try and make time to do all of your favorite things as you heal, including eating your favorite healthy foods, reading, listening to music, watching your favorite shows, painting, and more. It is also great to stay hydrated, so be sure to drink plenty of water!
