Fraxel Laser Resurfacing: A Breakthrough New Solution For Wrinkles And Sagging Skin

Fraxel laser skin resurfacing is an innovative laser treatment that triggers subdermal collagen production while exfoliating the top layer of the skin. The goal of Fraxel laser skin resurfacing is to help patients achieve beautiful skin faster, and with less downtime. Fraxel laser resurfacing is an excellent treatment option for patients who have uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, wrinkles, and crepey skin.

What is a Fraxel Laser?

A Fraxel laser refers to an FDA-approved fractional CO2 laser to treat skin damaged by aging and the sun. It is most commonly used for fractional laser resurfacing. The name Fraxel is the trademarked term for fractional technology, meaning the laser light works on a small fraction of skin at one time.

The laser removes a variety of skin damage. Fraxel laser for acne scars eliminates pitting, for example. The Fraxel laser for scars treatment softens the lines and stimulates new skin growth. Fraxel laser results provide fresh, younger skin free from hyperpigmentation and other problems.

With a Fraxel laser, light wavelengths hit the skin via a customized microgrid. By doing so, the laser damages only a small portion of the skin while the surrounding tissue remains healthy. This method has been demonstrated to lessen overall healing times and adverse effects while still offering spectacular results once the skin recovers.

What is Fraxel Repair Laser?

Fraxel Repair utilizes a fractionated CO2 laser to address severely aging or damaged skin. It treats:

  • Deep wrinkles
  • Resistant crow’s feet
  • Lip lines
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Loose skin

The overall goal is better skin tone and texture on the face, neck, chest, and hands. The Fraxel Repair laser treatment is perfect for tired, aging hands, wrinkled chests, and necks. In addition, we can bundle all the treatment areas together with a face repair, so you only have to worry about one recovery period.

How Does Fraxel Repair Laser Work?

The Fraxel CO2 laser for repair work is the most powerful of the Fraxel lasers. It works by vaporizing (eliminating) tiny columns of damaged tissue to stimulate the production of new, healthy skin cells and to build collagen.

Because the Fraxel Repair ablates in a pixilated pattern, treating only a fragment of the skin while sparing neighboring areas, it heals faster and with fewer issues than seen with typical CO2 laser resurfacing.

The laser vaporizes some of the previously damaged skin cells (which cause dull skin and hyperpigmentation, among other concerns). That allows the direct treatment of hyperpigmentation caused by acne scars, melisma, or liver spots.

The laser’s micro skin damage stimulates the body’s immune system to repair the area. As a result, new, healthy skin cells grow, and more collagen fibers form to strengthen the skin’s support network.

What to Expect During a Fraxel Repair Treatment?

We only perform this procedure under full anesthesia in our AAAASF surgical center. You will need a full surgical pre-op appointment with a nurse to go over the details, where you’ll receive information on what you can expect. At that time, we’ll also discuss the 6-product system of SkinMedica that is included as part of the surgery.

Once the procedure finishes, our staff will go over the precautions you should take as the skin heals before discharge. We will also talk about what side effects to expect and how to care for your skin as it heals.

We also ask that you purchase some items that will help you heal. You will need things like vinegar for soaks, cloth rags, and sun protective clothing. The nurse will go over that with you in the pre-op visit.

What is the Fraxel Laser Recovery Time?

The Fraxel laser treatment creates what is the equivalent of a second-degree burn. That means the therapy requires at least five to seven days of recovery, during which time the skin will be sore, swollen, leaking, crusting, and itching.

During this time, you can expect to visit our office every two days for the first two to four weeks. This allows us to check your skin and ensure it is healing appropriately. We take pictures to record your progress, check scabs, crusting, oozing, and treat as needed.

The skin should heal completely in 10 to 12 days, depending on the treatment’s strength and skin type. It can take longer for the redness to disappear, though, perhaps even months. Make-up can cover the redness until it disappears.

It is critical that you stay out of the sun as your skin heals—plan to cover up with hats and other clothing for three to four weeks.

What are the Benefits of Fraxel Repair?

The Fraxel Repair process smoothes the skin, improving its texture and tone. It also aids in tightening skin to give it a younger appearance.

The treatment is flexible. As a result, it can resurface the skin on the face, neck, chest, and hands and spot-treat minor areas around the lips without leaving a visible line. For instance, Fraxel laser stretch marks treatment would turn what was once bumpy, uneven skin into something smooth and fresh.

Laser treatment often requires several rounds to accomplish the goal. However, most people only need one session with Fraxel Repair. Therefore, Fraxel laser cost saves both time and money because most people don’t require repeat treatments.

Also, the results last. Down the road, you might consider more treatments to maintain that fresh, young look, though. But, again, the treatment is aggressive, so the results are long-lasting.

After Fraxel laser resurfacing, you can expect:

  • Smoother skin
  • Toning
  • A softening of frown lines and wrinkles
  • Reduction of age spots, sunspots, and sun damage
