A breast lift focuses on repositioning the breasts. It will not increase their size. However, a woman may choose to get breast implants (breast augmentation) at the same time. Combining procedures enables a woman to achieve the breast shape, position, and size she desires. An advantage of having both procedures at the same time is there is just the one recovery period.
Is every woman a good candidate for breast lift surgery?
The ideal candidate is a healthy nonsmoker who has realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure. Women who are likely to have more children are usually advised to wait until they no longer intend to get pregnant. Women who have had breast cancer or have a family history of breast cancer may not be good candidates for the procedure. Medical history should be discussed with the surgeon. A breast lift is performed under general anesthesia, so a woman should discuss any anesthesia concerns with her surgeon.
What is recovery like?
Patients should expect a 4-6 week recovery with resting and limited activity the first week. Most patients are cleared to return to work after one week. A support bra will be worn to help reduce post-operative swelling. Although patients will see a difference in their breasts immediately, it will take 6-8 weeks for most swelling to subside.
