Are you interested in undergoing breast augmentation surgery, but not sure which implant is the right option for you?
While your plastic surgeon will give you comprehensive recommendations during your breast augmentation consultation, here’s a quick rundown on the different types of breast implants you can expect to encounter.
The 4 Main Implants You Need to Know
1. Saline breast implants.
Saline implants consist of a silicone shell that’s filled with saline water. This implant can be placed within the breast as is, or the deflated implant can be placed under the breast tissue and then filled with a saline solution. While a saline implant may not be as strong as a silicone implant, it’s easy to tell when you have a leak, as the implant will harmlessly collapse.
2. Silicone breast implants.
Silicone breast implants are comprised of a silicone outer shell that contains a silicone solution. Silicone breast implants feel more like a natural breast; however, because it can be tough to tell if your implant has been ruptured, you’ll need to schedule regular MRI treatments to check in on the health and structure of your implants.

3. Smooth breast implants.
As their name implies, smooth breast implants have a slippery surface feel, which allows it to move more under the breast tissue. This creates a more natural look to the breasts.
4. Textured breast implants.
Textured breast implants have a textured surface to purposefully create scar tissue around the implant. Once this tissue forms, it keeps the breast implant firmly in position, which helps reduce the likelihood that the implant will rupture.
From the moment I walked in the office and was greeted by such nice staff to my one on one consultation with Dr. Keusch, I knew I was in such good hands. Dr. Keusch has such a great way of explaining everything, answering your questions, addressing any fears… and the result was even better than I could have expected! I had breast augmentation and while other surgeons would have suggested a lift (which I did not want – for the scaring) and implants, Dr. Keusch was able to give me the right implants so that I did not need the lift! And I am so grateful to her for that! Thank You! thank you!
