Breast Reduction Recovery Time
In general, you should expect to take at least one week off from work for breast reduction recovery. You may want to take two weeks off from work if you work a more manual job, as you’ll need to avoid lifting anything over one pound for a few weeks after your surgery.
Most of your recovery will take place over three to four weeks, when bruising and swelling subside. Results are immediate (you can see and feel the reduction right after surgery), but you can expect your final results about eight to twelve weeks after your procedure.
How to Have a Safe and Speedy Breast Reduction Recovery
The best way to speed up your breast reduction recovery is to focus on relaxing and recuperating during that pivotal first-week post-surgery. This is when you’re setting the stage for your recovery, as the brunt of your healing happens during this first week.
That’s why we typically recommend breast reduction patients get help in the home, especially when it comes to taking care of children. You should also plan on having someone drive you to and from your plastic surgery practice, as you won’t be able to drive right after surgery.
Finally, be sure to check in with Dr. Cristina Keusch before engaging in any new activities. You’ll need to get that pivotal approval before doing things like engaging in intimate activity, starting a new workout routine, or removing your surgical bra.
