The Skin Care Letter
Volume 10 • Issue 1 • May 2004
By Rebeca Goldberg, Licensed Esthetician, Office of Dr. Cristina Keusch
In each issue of The Skin Care Letter, I will share information about a subject that's of interest to our clients. The topic of this letter is Facials. It makes sense to enjoy the benefits of a professional facial anytime of year, but as we approach the Florida summer season, it's the perfect time to think about achieving a natural, healthy, radiant glow by getting the facial that's right for you, and maintaining your skin with tailored-to-you products.
During a professional facial in the Skin Care Center at Dr. Keusch's office, my primary goal is to offer each guest an exceptional experience, while using the highest quality products and most efficient techniques for the health and beauty of your skin.
The treatments and products we offer have been carefully designed and painstakingly selected to meet the varying needs of our patients, in order to restore their skin's healthy balance and radiance.
Nutrition, environment, stress and aging will all affect one's skin and how one appears on the "outside". Regular facials with products adapted from traditional beauty recipes and modern technology help combat these factors through deep cleansing and the removal of toxins-and by providing restorative relaxation.
The first step in the facial treatment is a clinical skin analysis. One's skin will be thoroughly examined to determine the type and condition.
Step two is a thorough cleansing to remove makeup, as well as surface dirt and oil.
Exfoliation is step three, which removes dead skin cells, thereby stimulating cell renewal and producing a healthy texture.
Step four entails gentle steam that is used to open up the pores and facilitate the next step.
Extractions is step five, in which blackheads, whiteheads are removed to promote a clear complexion.
The ever-popular step six is a deeply relaxing facial massage, which invigorates the skin while relaxing the patient.
Next, the proper mask is chosen for one's particular skin type.
After the mask is removed, step eight involves applying proper moisturizers to re-hydrate the cells and leave the skin healthy and glowing.
TYPES OF FACIALS
Dry or scaly skin is improved with an "Intensive Moisture Facial". This mask contains spinach, which has an enzyme that inhibits free radical destruction; aloe vera to calm, and allantorn to soothe. The capillaries are strengthened and rough skin is left soft and hydrated after an Intensive Moisture Facial.
The "Rejuvenating Facial" contains activated nitrogen spin-trap technology, which helps prevent cell destruction. Panthenol stimulates cells and aids in tissue repair. Tocaphenol acetate (Vitamin E) is an antioxidant that is used, which prevents sebum from becoming rancid and improves the skin's important ability to hold moisture.
The "Clarifying Facial" includes a mask that provides the feeling of a natural astringent. It is ideal for skin that is overproducing oil, and uses rosemary, sage and eucalyptus. Chamomile and comfrey are also in a Clarifying Facial and purify, soothe and repair. All of these ingredients combine to help normalize and calm acneous skin.
